About J. Leonard

John Leonard, a lifelong artist residing in Punta Gorda, Florida, began at the age of 6 to study art under the tutelage of accomplished water colorist Sadie Garfield. He continued his studies at the Art Institute of Boston where he developed the ability to capture passion and emotion in his art. Also an accomplished photographer, John has  photographed landscapes and people in New England, the parks of the west, South America and the Caribbean. His art and photography are on display in homes from New England to Florida.

Over the past eight years John's focus has been on pet portraits done in pastels. He is drawn to pastels because the medium offers a wonderfully rich pallet to depict the true likeness of the subject.  

As an avid pet lover throughout his life, he has the ability to portray in his art that special something that makes your pet unique. While specializing in dogs and cats he has had commissions for horses, a parrot and even a donkey. Contact John to have your best friend captured forever in a beautiful pastel portrait.
